Plants are classified according to their
relationships. Species can be grouped by
complexes,genera,families,orders,classes,phyla. And domains like Angiosperms
,Monocotyledons,Gymnoseperms,Ephedra Group and Equisetacease.They use to
seperate groups by outward appearance.But now they seperate by looking their
genetic relationships.

The firs person known to have tried to classify plants
was Theophrastus.He organized the 500 plants into three main categories:
tree,shrubs and herbs.Then plants were classified according to their leaf
characteristics.

Many plants that are very closely related ,but have quite
different leaves. Unrelated plants growing in similar environments will have
similar leaves because these are adapted that help plants cope with shade or
other stresses.
